I am so sorry that it has taken me almost 3 weeks to write about my labor and delivery story. It is the sweetest experience and I am excited to share it with everyone!
We had decided to be induced on November 1st, and ended up being 2nd on the induction list for that day, which sounded like I would be able to get right in in the morning hours! Turns out that it was a busy baby day at the hospital so all of the women on the list were shoved to the side, which I completely understand. I called the labor and delivery unit at 10 AM to check if they knew a time I was to come in. She told me that it had been a crazy morning and that she was going to call the girl 1st on the list to come in right then and that she would be giving me a call at about 11 AM! Well, 11 o'clock came and I got the call to come on in. We ran an errand to pick up my license plates for my new car and took off to my brother and sister in laws house to drop Coasten off for the day! I have to tell you that that was the hardest part. I already missed Coast so much, and knew that at that moment our lives were never going to be the same!
We got to the hospital around noon, checked into our hotel room for the next 2 days, put on my lovely gown, and climbed into bed! Sometime after 12:30 I finally had all my IV's in place, my pitocin going, monitors around my belly and snuggled up as comfy as you could possibly get in my electronic bed! My Dr. came in and broke my water right away, I totally remember that when I had Coast, and I have to say that sitting in a cold pool of fluid for hours is definitely my least favorite part. I was only dialated to a 2, and after a few hours of the pitocin being turned up as much as they could without having an internal monitor put in place, I was given one of those GREAT monitors! UMM horrible! I didnt care to have one of those huge cold monitors taped to my inner thigh making it impossible to use the bathroom or walk around or even sit comfortably.
Around 6 or so, our good friends called to see if Nate wanted some dinner brought up. Since not much was going on and Nate had not had dinner yet, we told them to come on over! An hour and a half had gone by and I was feeling great. My contractions were about a minute apart and I had to start closing my eyes to deal with the discomfort. I really wanted to get up and walk around, but couldnt because I was hooked up to EVERYTHING! After Nate trying to talk me into getting an epidural for about an hour, I finally agreed at 7:30 PM, only because I want/needed to get up and move around to deal with the intensity of the contractions, but COULD NOT! I battled with this decision and almost started crying because I had already gone 7 hours with nothing, and knew that I could physically and mentally do this naturally..
At about 8 o'clock I was having some different kind of pain in my lower left side along with some pressure, so my awesome nurses decided to check me to see how dialiated I was. At this point we were thinking that I still had a few more hours of laboring. Well, to all of our amazement my nurse looked up and blurted out, "well lets just have a baby then!" I thought she was joking so I kind of laughed, and she said, "seriously, lets have a baby, you're there!" Wow, really?! If I would have known that I only had a half an hour left before I got the epidural, I would have gone without it, I was a little upset and could still feel even with the epidural.
Our friends Eric and Ashley were on their way with Nates food, and when they got to our room they found out the great news that I was minutes away literally, from delivering! So they stayed in our room while it was being prepped and the second my Dr. walked in the room they left and went to eat dessert at the Cheesecake factory.
I LOVE the way my Dr. does her thing, she sits on the end of my bed and is just so calm talking to you about what she is doing. And I LOVE that she allows Nate to do everything as well! Anyway, After the first push Dr. Brown asked if I would like to touch the babys head as it was crowning. I of course jumped at that offer, I kind of wanted to pull a Courtney Kardashian and deliver my own baby, but I decided to let the professionals do that part! It was the neatest thing to be able to touch my unborn babys head! One other push later my little baby Hyde was born.. 8:12 PM (Coast was born at 8:14 AM) 6 Lbs 6 Oz and 20 1/2 Inches long, so teeny tiny, I remember as soon as they threw him up on top of me right after delivery I held his little bum in my hands and said, "His bum is so small!" and it really is, this babe is super skinny but oh so cute! While my Dr. was doing everything else I asked her to show me the placenta, so I watched her deliver the placenta and she told me everything about it. So awesome! I got the shakes so badly afterward for about an hour and I was so sore after that, it tensed up my entire body.
Our friends came back to the hospital about an hour later, and it was so fun to have them enjoy those moments with us! 7 hours of labor and two pushes later, our beautiful baby Hyde entered this world and came into our family. He is beautiful and an awesome baby at that. We are just in love with him. Newborns are so precious! I cant believe that those amazing moments are already over. I love Mommyhood
PS. Baby number 3 will be "all natural" assuming that my body will go into labor on its own. Loved it
Shana you amaze me! You really do. You are such a great momma! I am so happy you shared that beautiful story with me. It somehow in my crazy life makes me want to have another one...Yeah I may be crazy. LOL
ReplyDeleteI love people's delivery stories! Your doctor seems wonderful; its so nice when the doctor keeps you really informed. I like knowing all the details. You are so amazing and have two of the most handsome boys. Hyde is one lucky boy with Coasten as his big brother. Hope we see you all again soon!
ReplyDeleteGirly!! so fun to read about your experience~ he is beyond adorable! so glad you are all doing well~
ReplyDeleteCongrats again. First off, you look completely gorgeous pregnant, so I don't know what you're taking about. I'm glad everything went well with the labor and delivery. I'm amazed you can even set out to go natural because I don't think I will ever be able to do that. Hope you guys continue to do well. We miss you!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh-loved it! So amazing. Such a bummer you couldn't go natural-it's definitely easier being able to walk around. And much less painful without pitocin. For sure you'll do it next time! He is so stinkin' adorable and tiny!! It would be funny if we could put our twins next to each other... Mine would be gigantic! Haha. Anyway, you look super amazing ( especially your 9 month preggo pics! So cute girl) and congrats again :)
ReplyDeleteThat seems like a near perfect delivery story! Congratulations! He is absolutely beautiful and you looked beautiful hours before delivering as well!
